This product has been perfect for my household! We typically make 2-3 batches of popcorn 3-4 nights a week. We've had no problems with it. It's lightweight & easy to clean. If you want popcorn for more than 2-4 people, it might be best to purchase a larger size machine, but for 2-4 people, it's just right. The small batches make it easy to pop for just 1 or 2 people, and the short time it takes to pop additional batches make it easy to serve up to 4. It's a great product!

I started using the flat ice cream scoops a few years ago, and while they DO work better scooping ice cream away from the sides of the box, I kinda miss the nice round scoops! Anyways, this particular scoop is pretty good, although slightly TOO flat - ice cream slides easily off the edge if you're not careful! It does scoop all ice creams I've tried very well and I have no complaints, though I doubt the liquid handle thing did much. My only issue - it can't go in the dishwasher! It does clean easily though, but I prefer to toss stuff in the dishwasher when I can!

This ice cream spade is well-made, looks good, & gets the ice cream out of the box better than most scoops. I like the retro design (it's fashioned after the original 1930s model), but I have three minor complaints. First, the spade is a bit too flat & sometimes the ice cream will roll off it. Second, the handle (which is filled with some sort of liquid like anti-freeze) suposedly helps to melt the ice cream by conducting the warmth of your hand down the handle; this feature just doesn't work. For it to work, you'd have to grip the handle tightly for 15 minutes before using it, to warm it up, but even then there wouldn't be enough heat generated from your hand to make this concept work. Third, probably because of the liquid in the handle, it's not recommended for the dishwasher (no big deal, just wash it like they did in the 1930s, by hand!). Also, the price is a bit too much, even though it's a high quality product. I would recommend the Kitchen Aide spade over this one; it's half the price & does the job just as well or better.

Our 'iron test' for any ice cream gadget is a very well-known brand of nonfat frozen yogurt. For some reason in the freezer it gets hard enough to make a patio out of, but the Zeroll spade goes right through it. Not sure the liquid in the handle really helps, probably more the excellent design -- i.e., handle size, leverage, heft, etc. At any rate, the liquid seems to keep the handle from getting icy-cold while scooping, which is nice for arthritic hands. PLEASE note that the box says on the back but in much-too-small print : DO NOT PUT IN DISHWASHER. It rinses off perfectly after use in ordinary tapwater so no problem.

I've had this about 6 months. I do these things on the stovetop usually (rice, steaming, pasta) as I consider these to be simple... and I don't have a problem doing it and cleanup is about the same. I don't use a dishwasher as I don't have a family with me anymore, so a dishwasher is pretty wasteful for me.

This little device can be helpful though:

*Microwave usually takes about half the time as it heats faster

*If you're the forgetful type or are distracted, the microwave turns off and you don't have to worry about most "unwatched" issues

*it can free up stovetops for other tasks

It has its problems too though:

*microwaves vary widely both in power and in efficiency of delivering the heat to the food. This means almost everything done in it takes "trial and error" adjustment of liquid ratios and recipe timings.

For this little gadget, I'd rate FUNCTIONALITY as follows:

-Steaming foods: 5 STAR-- works fine. many other units do the same though as steaming is easy and non-critical ..

-Popcorn: 3 STAR-- this is pretty bad.. it can be made to work and that's about it. This is fussy and % pop is lower. The Nordic Ware Microwaver Popcorn Popper 12 Cup (available as part of sets and individually) works rather better.

-Rice: 4 STAR-- This works as well as other microwave rice makers..I don't find it to be any better and its more expensive.

-Pasta: 4 STAR-- This is pretty much the same as rice..

DESIGN issues are POOR.

*This unit is quite unstable, having only 3 legs and they aren't even at the edge.. Any "jiggle" of this with something in it will tip it over.

*Plastic used for the bowl/leg unit is definitely breakable. If you drop it for any reason, its likely broken. The "locking lid" is likewise pretty prone to damage.

*The plastic, though fairly tolerant of heat will definitly melt and soften/warp if overheated.. usually due to inadequate water or just letting it run without checking it.

Overall 2 STAR for design including safety, usability, durability, and convenience... This is a serious issue to me and will affect every user.

The unit isn't bad, and certainly can be a useful addition to the kitchen, but for me it's OK at best. I find that the Nordicware is better in almost every safety category and at least equal in performance. (it isn't perfect either, just better)

All of the units I looked at take up a lot of room and are "fussy" in that there are bits and pieces that have to be stored and kept track of in various ways. They are NOT compactly stored :( At least they aren't electric so they are light and have no "power" issues such as plug access and cleaning issues.. hehe.

I'd love to rate this higher as it is a useful tool, but I feel that its negatives are high and there are equal or better alternatives.

No more sticky rice. I've tried to cook flacky rice for years and always ended up with something resembling mashed potatoes. Instructions almost always said,"boil in a saucepan with a tight fitting lid until all the water has boiled away". I thought this roaster would roast nuts the way that

It did do well using the bottled mix to roast sweet nuts, but

It seems to me that anybody putting a product out in the wild should be proud of what they put out there. Personally I don't feel comfortable putting my work out there if I don't think it's the best I can do.

That being said, it's hard to believe that the people that made this popper would be proud of their work. The fit&finish on this machine is very poor, and you get the impression that it was just slapped together and pushed out the door. What specifically do I mean?

The top is uneven, with two corners bent upwards. It looks like they used a warped piece of metal to seal the top of it.

The tray on the bottom had a shelf missing (there are two metal brackets that the tray slides on). It was clearly a poorly welded piece and had just fallen off.

The front glass doors don't line up al that well, and no amount of adjusting seems to fix it.

The bottom fold out metal panel is WAY TOO TIGHT to be of any use. It takes two hands and a lot of force to move it up or down.

There are plenty of very sharp edges both inside and outside the machine.

And maybe the worse part - the machine came with a healthy amount of metal shavings on pretty much all parts, especially the inside where you would be scooping out the popcorn. This alone is an invitation to be sued. Yes, you would always clean a new machine like this, but having to find all of the metal shavings is beyond what you should expect to do.

All of these problems are not only correctable, but could and should have been found by an inspector prior to leaving their factory. I would be downright embarrassed to send this out with my name on it. It's products like this that give "Made In America" a bad name. It's really too bad.

Does the popper work?

After 2 weeks of experimenting and a lot of trial and error, we finally got the machine to turn out good batches of popcorn. Initially we had about 50% of every batch as un-popped. It's important to use enough oil, and the right type of oil/popcorn. But now it does churn out really good popcorn.

The user manual is barley worth sending at all. If you've ever purchased any Blendtec products, you know how nicely packaged it comes, and how well documented all of their products are. They even include health and diet information along with a handsome recipe book. First rate all the way. This popper would be on the opposite end. There's so much they could do to improve this product, the way it's sold, shipped and presented when you receive it.

Would I buy it again?

Probably not, knowing what I know now. It's good enough that I'm not interested in returning it, but I would rather pay more (and this is NOT cheap) and get a quality product. As somebody who takes great pride in my work at every level, it's deeply disappointing to see how some people just don't care at all.

"Burnt Popcorn" 2009-01-28

I ordered this popper for Christmas, and, unfortunately, have been unable to get it to work properly without burning the popcorn. I thought it would be great for our high school boys who hang out it the basement. I have been using the prepackaged oil and popcorn recommended for the unit, so that is not the problem.

Once the popcorn holding container (the stainless steel suspended thing in the photo) is heated and the oil is added and then the popcorn -a bar starts spinning the popcorn around within the heating unit. Once the spinning begins, unit begins to bounce around as the popcorn pops. This causes the unit to move away from the cog which is spinning it in a circle (this is bad!), it stops spinning, and the popcorn burns! We have tried several things to prevent this from happening but to no avail. The cog "teeth" are not very deep and don't prevent the motor and the popcorn unit from bouncing away from each other, so they lose contact. The popcorn then just sits in the heating unit while the unit bounces around trying to make contact with the motor that's supposed to spin the kernals so they don't sit in one spot and burn. So the popcorn does not fall out into the container below, and either burns or does not pop. We are sick of fooling with this thing trying to get it to work.

I hope I have made the problem clear. If anyone has a suggestion, I will happily remove or revise this review!

This machine is really a bargain for the price. It has been reliable so far and the quality is pretty good. There are a few quirks - the doors don't always stay shut (they are held closed by magnets which seems a bit underpowered). Also, on occasion the cable that connects into the bowl sometimes comes loose (also held by magnets). Other than that, I've been happy with this popper and would highly recommend it.

I have owned this popcorn machine for a few months now and it has performed good. But if you are like me, you always get a little "smarter" after the purchase. For the price this machine is probably good as it gets, add a little more money and you have better made machines to choose from. It works for me right now but I would not expect it to last very long if it was used heavily in a commercial type setting. After I purchased it, I found a popcorn machine dealer here and looked at some other machines including a Paragon machine that was only a little bit more money than this one. The fit and finish and materials on the Paragon was much better and appeared built to handle heavy usage. This one is 860 watts which is good and only requires about 5 or 6 minutes to heat up. One issue I noticed is the 8oz kettle on this machine is not very deep. I saw another 8oz machine with a kettle nearly 1 inch deeper. I think the shallow kettle helps too many kernels to go flying about unpopped and end up in the old maid tray. I watched a commercial popper do its thing and there were hardly any unpopped kernels left. There are a bunch with this machine even with using the pre-portion packs. I even added weight to the flip up kettle doors and that has helped but once the popcorn gets popping good and the doors fly open, the uncooked kernels come a flyin. One other issue I see is how the power cord is attached to the kettle. This one is attached via a magnet and seems to easily pop loose when you turn the kettle up to shake the remainder out. I think there could be a better means of attaching the cord to the kettle. Again some of the other types I have seen have a heavy duty flexible cord permanently attached. My unit was made in China according to the box it came in and I think it is good for the Home Theater and occasional use. My next machine will probably be a different brand from this one. Again it has performed good in my home theater with occasional use, but I have doubts about taking it to a function and cooking popcorn for 200 people.

I could not give this item more than 3 stars because the item arrived with a small dent which was not severe enough to return but still a bit annoying. Additionally, I expected a more heavy duty popper. This popper is very light gauge aluminum. As if to underscore my comment about quality, one of the gear teeth broke on first use. Regardless, as I said, it does work well in that almost all kernels do pop and they taste great. I am using Orville Redenbacher Corn and popping oil."

This popcorn maker was a lot of fun but it has several drawbacks. It is not very easy to clean and it is difficult to get the popcorn out of the bottom. My wife used a spaghetti spoon to rake it out (this worked pretty good). The lids on the popper need to be heavier than they are. The force of the exploding popcorn opens them allowing unpopped kernels to escape. I attached some weights to the lid and it worked much better. The popcorn was very fluffy and very good taste. The popcorn maker looks really cool in our home theater.

I recommend this item as long as you like the extra effort for good popcorn. If you are lazy stick to the microwave bag.

"Worst product ever made." 2009-03-24

Well, I suppose it could have been worse if the thing had burned down the house, but I would still classify this machine as pure evil. It is especially evil because it bears the Cuisinart brand name, leading one to believe it is a quality machine. For the price, it certainly should be.

I am not inept, generally speaking, but this "Easy-Pop" popcorn maker is far more trouble than it is worth. It is difficult to line up the heating element prongs when you put it together. This would have been an easy design element to fix, just by having slots with wide openings that taper down as the element slides in, properly aligning it. Nope. You have to line it up just right, and the marks on the back--NOT THE FRONT WHERE YOU COULD SEE THEM--are difficult to see and line up.

So, I add the popcorn and oil and turn it on. Fifteen minutes later, it's still spinning, but I don't have any popcorn. I turn it off, readjust the handles and make sure it is latched, and turn it on again. Ten minutes later, no popcorn, and I've lost all interest by now. Still, I try a third time to see if it will even work. It finally pops the popcorn. When it is done popping, I turn it over, but because the bowl does not attach tightly to the base, I allow a gap to open and popcorn goes everywhere. While trying to get it rightd and back together, I slip and burn my finger on the very hot element. Who thought it was a good idea to have people flipping over a burning-hot burner with just two tiny handles to hold onto?

I just threw all that popcorn away, I was so frustrated. After the first disaster, I'm sure I could use it better the next time, if it will heat up. Why would they call this an "Easy-Pop" popcorn maker? That should be illegal. They should call it the Dangerous-And-Difficult-Popcorn-Maker-That-May-Or-May-Not-Work. After that experience, I just want to take it out to the driveway and run over it with my truck. And I still have to clean the stupid thing.

If you want to make an egg roll wrapper, then this is the product for you. It is a little bit messy though. When you dip your pan into the little bowl, make sure you flip it fast and make sure you line your counter with foil or newspaper so that you dont have a lot of mess to clean up after.

I've owned this blender for 2 months now and it works quite well. I make lots of smoothies with it. I use frozen fruit and ice and it crushes it quite well. The pitcher part is plastic and it comes with a pour spout and plug.

I made one smoothie and the motor burned out. I had it on pulse and then the low setting and I could smell something burning. I let it rest for awhile and tried again when it just stopped. The motor burned out. It is total junk and don't recommend it. My last smoothie maker was a Back to Basics and lasted 3 years with a lot of use. It was the cheaper model and liked it much better.

I have an elaborate smoothie recipe using wheat germ; flaxseed meal; peanut butter; yogurt; tofu; 2 C frozen fruits, to name a few ingredients. Instructions with this for smoothie recipes in their book helped guide me on how to make a thicker smoothie. This machine did a great job with the challenging recipe I have. I made the smoothie more than once a week usually, sometimes three times or more. This machine did great. I wore it out in almost a year. The motor started smelling when I used it. I tried the pour spout on the front once - didn't like it. The pour spout of the jar could be better (different shape, maybe more pointed) in that my smoothie wanted to pour wide out of it so it was easy to miss the drinking vessel. The biggest con was cleaning and reassembling. The pour spout cap had to be removed to clean the threads. The blade assembly and ring had to be removed and cleaned all over. I had to put water in it before use to check for leaks once it was reassembled, and I often had to loosen and tighten a few times before it wouldn't leak water after being cleaned and reassembled. Dealing with the leaking was a hassle.

I was a bit skeptical considering others claimed the cups are useless within a month or so but that's not something I've come across in my case. While it is the perfect product for a single serving smoothie, you do have to make sure to master the right ratio of ice to liquids in order to have a delicious smoothie. I tend to add more liquid and less ice. I use it on a daily basis and love it!

Have been using the slushie express for about a month. I use it to make milk shakes and smoothies. I have had more smoothies in last one month than in the whole year. The only problem is it doesn't have a on/off switch. May be thats the reason many reviewers have complained of the side knobs breaking off after few uses. Otherwise, its a nice compact machine.

"Almost a good product" 2009-07-24

I am an engineer, so I followed directions precisely.

First time I tried it I used butter in the automatic dispenser. The butter melted immediately and starting boiling in the bottom of the container. I can't prove it, but I think the butter slowed the popping process. Nothing popped for almost 2 minutes, then a small flurry, and popping slowed way down. I kept punching the minute button and watched closely. After 7 minutes, the popcorn was still popping slowly and was starting to burn.

Second time I tried it with no butter and no oil. It worked better, but still needed more than 5 minutes to pop a decent percentage of what was put in. It was on the edge of burning that time too. The top was very hot and a little difficult to remove.

If you stopped at the time recommended, then maybe half your corn would be popped. I think this would work better as a stove top unit.

Anyway, not recommended, and a disappointment.

I gave this to my popcorn-loving husband for Christmas last year, and he loves it! We use it several times a week. It gives you the option to use extra seasonings, or just have the plain popcorn without all of the icky oils and extras that are usually in bagged popcorn. It is very easy to use, dishwasher safe, and fun to watch, too!

We wanted something like this to avoid plastic and this looked like the answer. We had previously had the Orville R. Microwave popper which worked very well, but, like I said, plastic. This glass unit worked well enough at first. We usually fill up two large bowls on popcorn night. This unit is small which means making 4 or 5 batches. But it seemed like it took a batch or two for the thing to start popping most of the kernels. Maybe it needed to heat up? But the thing does get VERY hot. And oven mitt is a must. Alas the handle just snapped off one day after having it for several months. I have to believe the extreme heating and cooling cycles had to do with weakening the handle. We're going to try a hot air popper next.

I was so excited to receive this popcorn popper, but it won't fit in my microwave oven... or my daughter's, or my son's, or my churches... In fact, I'm having a hard time finding someone to give it to... it's too tall to fit in standard microwaves! It measures 8" tall, and my microwave is only 7" inside. :( Disappointing.

We got one 6 months ago and have used it at least once per day. We wore off the pretty red label months ago, probably because we put it in the dishwasher every day. You don't even need to wash this thing after every use, just wipe it out with a paper towel and your ready to go again. I saw that another reviewer has had popcorn stick to the inside. I've never had that happen. However, we don't make popcorn without oil. We like to use olive oil (canola oil works too). We use 2 tbsp of oil and 1/3 cup of popcorn then put 1 tbsp of butter in the dripper on top and 4 1/2 minutes in the microwave (your mileage may vary). I do have to use a spoon occasionally to get the popcorn to come out of the opening at the top. But, that is a good thing because the popcorn has filled the popper so full that it gets jammed tight. It is a glass jar so it will break. But, no orange dye or space-age polymers to get stuck in your food (unless you're into that, of course). AND, our kids can make popcorn without using the stove and potentially burning down the house. The handle has an important function, it doesn't get hot. The jar, however, does get hot. If you make another batch without letting the jar cool down you will have to adjust your timing on the microwave... but that makes sense, right?

I just bought this. It came really quickly in 2 boxes, cart and popper. Assembly was required. The packaging was very good and the boxes mailed well. I wanted to get this going so I did not wait for my husband to put it together and did it myself, I am 42 and never put anything together. It was very simple. The directions were clear and the bolts were put in labeled bags and easy to identify where they go. It took like 1/2 hour to put together, and I am slow so anyone with any mechanical aptitude will do this effortlessly. It is 5 feet 7 and perfect size for any home theater. It is well made and I like that the base of the cart is a storage area. It came with a plastic large scoop and some measuring spoons. I got the black one and it is so decorative. After much internet searching I decided to get the megapop popcorn kits that have the coconut oil, flavacol salt and popcorn (currently not available at amazon). It is all premeasured. It tasted just like movie theater popcorn with that buttery yellow corn. Too me it was a bit too salty but the rest of the family thought it was perfect. So, all I did was take out some of the salt flavoring from the popcorn side and that solved my problem. It made like a large movie theater bucket size in a packet in just a few minutes. Again no added salt was needed and no added butter was needed. I was going to add some but the family said the popcorn was perfect. Also it was very easy to clean. There are holes on the bottom for the loose kernels to fall into a drawer and the unused popcorn stays warm under the heater for when you go for seconds. I am so happy with it I cant tell you.
