I'm a big fan of staying home at times and watching a good movie with my better half beside me.



I have been delighted with this product since the first time I used it at home. It's easy to use, easy to clean up, and produces movie theater popcorn for a fraction of the price. And without all the heart-clogging grease, this also makes for a viable alternative to those looking to be more healthy but still want to enjoy delicious popcorn.

Okay. So my family is nuts about whirley pop. This is the way to make popcorn. We used to have an air popper and I was never fully impressed with it because it spits the popcorn out as soon as it pops and that is not quite enough time to make the popcorn not chewy. The whirley pop allows the popcorn to cook just the perfect amount of time to be done just right. The moisture vents on top let the moisture out which is also essential to good popcorn. I like being able to use my organic popcorn in the popper. A couple of things that I would advise. It does need a good cleaning at the start as there is a lot of dark grease from production. Also the metal hands that spin the popcorn were not bent down to allow the proper stirring of the popcorn. It would just float on top of the unpopped kernels. Anyways, it took me a couple of tries to figure this out and then I bent them with my hands and it worked perfect!

The Whirley pop is a POS. The gears are plastic and mine broke in less than six months. I have been trying to phone, but phone is busy, I emailed and have yet to hear back or recieve replacement gears. Find a popper with metal gears. The Whirley pop is a pos.

I have had a whirley-pop for about 10 years now and I still use it. Stove-top popped corn just cannot be beat. It takes about 3 minutes to pop 6 quarts which is actually faster than the microwave. I haven't had any issues with quality of the popper after all these years. Be sure to clean it after use. If you just wipe it down good directly after, that is all you need to do since this is more the old-fashioned approach of a 'seasoned' pan. You should be able to find butter-flavored popping oil with the popcorn in the local grocery store along with popcorn salt which is finer so better suited. Do not overfill! Move off of heat as soon as it is done.

(Side note: I have read some cautions about aluminum and alzheimer's here on Amazon's product reviews. One might want to personally research that topic. Might want to include the alzheimers.org website in the research. Aluminum is found in many natural sources too - like tea.)

I was extremely disappointed upon receiving the Whirley-Popper. The design is flimsey and it was shoved in a box with no protection for shipping. By the time UPS had their way with it, it was bent to where the crank just fanned air.



I was also disappointed to see that the gears were plastic (not acceptable for heat).



They have a wonderful product that needs some manufacturing changes (metal gears) and improved packaging for shipping.



I sent mine back for a refund.

Whirley-Pop Stovetop Popcorn Popper

My husband is a pop corn holic, he could eat popcorn for a meal. Well, I read about this popper and bought it for him for Christmas. It is totally awesome. It pops the largest pieces and there is no kernels left in the pan, as with other methods. He loves it and so do I. Clean up is easy and do as the instructions say. We got the red pan and I like it alot. I am looking at the stainless steel one now. You will love the popcorn and the pkgs. they sell taste just like theater corn. Happy eating......

I have cooked about 30 batches of popcorn so far and every one has come out perfectly. There are never more than 2 or 3 old maids and often there are none. I use grape seed oil and find that I can get away with a very small amount (although the popcorn tastes better if I use more).



There is nothing special about the popcorn I use. I get excellent results with generic white popcorn available at the supermarket for less than a dollar a pound. I have tried various gourmet brands of popcorn with good results but I keep going back to the cheap white stuff because it has the best flavor. Go figure.



I toasted some raw pumpkin seeds in the popper and they came out great. I tried using oil the first time but discovered that no oil is necessary since the seeds exude oil when heated.



The popper seems flimsy but it works just fine so I will suspend judgment on that issue until I have some actual problems.



This thing beats microwave popcorn hands down. It is just as fast and I can control my ingredients. I use good oil and I salt the popcorn with the salt substitute named NoSalt. It makes for an inexpensive, nourishing, high fiber, low-calorie snack.



The only alternative would be one of the hot air poppers but without oil the resulting popcorn tastes to me like cardboard. I'll stick with the Whirley-Pop.

For 29 years, I used the same Teflon-coated pan exclusively for stove-top popcorn. The popcorn from that pan tasted great. Problem was, 70% of the Teflon had gradually come off (apparently into my popcorn) - not a good thing. So I searched for a similar-sized inexpensive non-coated pan. After much shopping, I couldn't believe that such a pan didn't exist unless I was willing to pay about $60 for some fancy stainless-steel job. I discovered the Whirley-Pop, & it was exactly what I was looking for. No more shaking a mesh-screen-&-paper-towel-covered pan over high heat, making a mess. The Whirly-Pop is simple & easy. Each kernel pops nearly every time. It's used 2-3 times per week, but I don't wash it. I wipe it out with a paper towel so that like a movie theater popper, it's seasoned with older oil, imparting a great flavor one can't get with dry, overly-salted, hydrogenated-oil-rich microwave popcorn. I just use a little corn oil to pop it & a little table salt to season it. Be careful, however, with this fairly delicate unit. It'll burn up with high heat & break if you get rough with it. Use medium heat, handle gently, & it ought to last a long while. I couldn't be happier with the results, & the price is a screaming bargain compared to plain-old pans of similar size.
